Plastic Bottle Refill Scheme - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The West Wight Timebank are delighted to introduce their pop-up mobile plastic bottle refill scheme. The scheme is run by Timebank members who volunteer their time and skills. In return for every hour volunteered they earn one credit which they can exchange with other members for any help that they need.
This initiative is something we can all participate in to reduce the amount of single use plastic being discarded. Members of the public can come along with their empty plastic bottles, which must be washed out, to have them refilled. Please note, drinks bottles are not included in the scheme. The products available are all environmentally friendly and produced in the UK. They are washing up liquid, multipurpose cleaner, liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner, laundry liquid and fabric conditioner.
Prices are calculated by volume and are very competitive, for example, an average sized refill bottle of washing up liquid costs £1.20. Payment is by cash only.
These are the venues where you can go along to get refill:
- first Friday of month at St Saviours Church Hall 11-12 in Totland
- second Monday of month at Freshwater Methodist Church 10-12
- third Wednesday of the month 2-4pm at Freshwater Coffee House
- last Thursday of the month at West Wight Sports Centre 10-12
And from 8th October, every Tuesday morning at Medlars B&B in Halletts Shute, Norton and at the Friday craft market in Freshwater Memorial Hall on the third Friday of the month.
If you can’t get along to any of the venues, Freshwater Coffee House are offering a pre-order scheme where you can drop off your empties to be refilled. You can collect and pay for them the following week. Please support this local scheme and do your bit to save the planet at the same time.
